Abby Phillips, a 16-year-old sophomore at South Caldwell High School, was one of 18 wrestlers at the Women’s Open State Championship Tournament in Bakersville, N.C. on Feb. 24. Though Phillips wrestled girls that day, during the regular season she rarely does. This is because the North Carolina High School Athletic Association does not separate girls in boys into different divisions like it does in basketball or soccer.
