Charlotte Street Artists Painting for Social Change

Broadcast and photos by: Josh Conner

Among the many challenges that have accompanied 2020, street artists in Charlotte have taken to the walls and streets of the city to bring awareness to issues happening across the country. CLT Cheeks and Jamila Brown are among those artists taking on Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement through their artwork. These paintings have provoked discussion, questions, and even brought smiles to those looking for comfort in these times. These paintings have a purpose behind every splash of color the artist makes.
Jamila Brown poses on the base of her Black Lives Matter statue piece, with her fist raised high, and her hand sewn and painted flag at her feet.
